2007 SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION AND INSTRUCTIONS

 The American Society of Sugar Cane Technologists is again offering scholarships to graduating high school students.

 The American Society of Sugar Cane Technologists is a technical organization. Its primary goal is to improve sugarcane production and milling practices through scientific principles and procedures. Consistent with these standards, we are again offering college scholarships to graduating high school seniors for 2007.

Qualification criteria are based on affiliation with the sugar industry, and scholastic performance. The requirements for receipt of the scholarship remain the same -

§         Attendance at a high school in the Everglades Agricultural Area (Belle Glade, Clewiston, Moore Haven or Pahokee) or, if from an outlying high school, having a parent/guardian involved with the sugar industry, either employed by the Florida Sugar Industry and/or a member of the ASSCT;

§         Continuation of education at a university or college no later than fall, 2006 or any major at an accredited institution of post high school education;

§         A minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA in high school:

§         Good performance on an Academic Exercise created by the Scholarship Committee of the ASSCT consisting of a short essay and questions involving math calculations, general science and current events.

Knowledge of the Florida Sugar Industry will be to your advantage. Students are highly encouraged to visit our website at http://www.ASSCT.org

We will post instructions and forms for applying for the scholarship in 2007.. Good Luck!

Fishing for Scholars

The Second Annual ASSCT College Scholarship Fundraising Fishing Trip was held on May 6, 2006.  More than 60 participants had a wonderful time drift fishing on the Blue Heron, while raising more than $2,700 for the scholarship fund.  Our thanks to all who participated, and a special thanks to our donors:

DuPont Crop Protection
Pro Tech USA
Sugar Manufacturer's Supply Corporation
Syngenta Crop Protection

American Utilities

Key Controls

Due to the popularity “fishing for scholars” we are making this an annual event each May.  Please check back to this site or contact a Florida ASSCT executive committee member for details on the 2007 trip.
